Mottled grouper - Mycteroperca rubra - Playing in the sand

Mottled grouper -Mycteroperca rubra, large, oval body with a well developed head and large mouth. Usually reddish brown, sometimes mottled with black or pale grey spots with black streak above maxilla. Occurs over rocky and sandy bottoms between 15 and 50 meters.
