Eel-shaped body with a subcylindrical front end. Elongated snout with a wide mouth and big lips. Well developed pectorals. Colour varies from blackish to whitish. Lives on rocky and sandy-muddy bottoms from 3-5 meters down to 100 meters. Maximum length 2 meters.
