Um El-Faroud

Um El-Faroud Wreck, Malta

The Um El-Faroud was built in England in 1969 and delivered to a company in Tripoli, Libya. For more than two decades the tanker transported refined fuel between Italy and Libya. In February 1995 the vessel docked in Malta for repairs, but on the night of February 3, a tragic explosion in tank no. 3 killed nine yard workers. The damage was so severe that the ship was declared beyond economical repair.
