Jellyfish

Jellyfish – Sea Jellies

Jellyfish, also called sea jellies, are free-swimming marine animals belonging to the phylum Cnidaria. They appear in a variety of forms across several cnidarian classes, including Scyphozoa (over 200 species), Staurozoa (about 50 species), Cubozoa (around 20 species), and Hydrozoa (1,000–1,500 species, some of which produce jellyfish and others that do not). The jellyfish of these groups are referred to as scyphomedusae, stauromedusae, cubomedusae, and hydromedusae. Known for their translucent, drifting forms and delicate movements, jellyfish are some of the most fascinating subjects in underwater photography.
