Sea anemone

Sea Anemones – Actiniaria

Sea anemones (Actiniaria) are water-dwelling predatory animals named after the colorful terrestrial flower. Belonging to the phylum Cnidaria, class Anthozoa, these soft-bodied polyps lack a medusa stage and use tentacles lined with stinging cells to capture prey. Sea anemones are closely related to corals, jellyfish, and hydra. Their striking forms and vivid colors make them popular subjects for underwater photography, often creating a living backdrop for clownfish and other reef life.
