Wat Phothisomphon is probably the most important temple in Udon Thani city and famous for its teachings, especially on meditation. The main element of this Buddhist complex, which is under royal patronage is the Phra Borommathat Thamma Chedi, a pagoda built on the occasion of the 80th birthday of King Rama IX.
