Mistra Village
Mistra Village opened in the 80s and was operated by the
Corinthia group as one of Maltas best Hotels for the time. It closed its doors in
2004. Looking at the sad remains today, one can only guess what magic the place
once held.
The area than has been in the headlines ever since
its closure. Already in 2004 applications for redevelopment where handed to the
planning Authorities consisting of high rise buildings with up to 19 stories
which where contested not only by local residence. However, permits for
redevelopment have been given already in 2008. Final permission to start
construction got delayed by multiple contests. The development permit issued in
2013 was allowed to expire due to funding issues. In 2023 a new development permit
was granted. However, the area got back into the headlines while works started
despite pending court sentencing….
