Oval,very deep, compressed body. Silvery grey, darker on the snout. 8 - 9 alternating light and dark stripes on the sides. Rear edge of the caudal is black. Lives on rocky and sandy bottoms from 2 -3 meters to over 50 meters. Measures up to 40 centimeters.
