Long-spined urchin - Centrostephanus longispinus - In the spot light

Round-bodied urchin with numerous, very long and highly mobile, spines. Purply-brown; the spines have alternate light and dark hoops. Found on rocky, poorly illuminated bottoms from 10-15 meters down to 200. Shell diameter up to 4 centimeters.
