Ravensburg - Blaserturm - Renaissance Watchtower beneath a Deep Blue Sky

Ravensburg - Image

The Blaserturm rises above Ravensburg’s historic centre, its tall Renaissance form dramatically framed against a deep blue sky.

The Blaserturm is one of the defining landmarks of Ravensburg’s historic centre and a striking reminder of the city’s medieval fortifications. In this photograph, the tall pale tower dominates the surrounding old-town buildings, its clock face and upper lookout structure standing sharply against a deep blue sky. The tower originally formed part of the medieval city wall, but after Ravensburg expanded during the 14th century and the old fortification line in this area was removed, the Blaserturm became a central feature of the town itself. It served as Ravensburg’s principal watchtower until 1911, with a tower watchman responsible for observing the city and sounding an alarm in case of fire or danger. After the tower collapsed in 1552, it was rebuilt between 1553 and 1556 in Renaissance style. Today it rises approximately 51 metres above the city and remains one of the most recognizable monuments in Ravensburg, the famous “City of Towers and Gates”.
