Dachau - The castle
Dachau castle was built around 1100 on order of Earl von Scheyern. After the castle was passed on to several nobel families it was demolished between 1398 and 1403. In 1467 Earl Siegmund took over and ordered to rebuild the castle in a new style. Again the newly build castle was passed on from one noble family to another. The last major renovation took place in 1715 on order of Earl Max II. Beginning of the 19. century three of the four wings where again demolished due to substantial damage caused by housing napoleonic warriers.
From 1907 the remaining castle was used for artistic exhibitions. Today the upper ballroom is housing concerts and at the ground floor you can find a modern restaurant.
