An elevated view from the Vittoriano crosses Piazza Venezia toward the rooftops and historic church domes of central Rome beneath a dramatic sky.
Piazza Venezia and the rooftops of central Rome spread out below the Vittoriano in this elevated view from the heart of the Italian capital. Italian flags and monumental sculptures frame the foreground, while the domes of Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano and Santa Maria di Loreto rise prominently above the historic cityscape in the distance. Piazza Venezia is one of Rome’s principal urban crossroads, connecting Via del Corso with routes toward the Capitoline Hill and the Imperial Fora. The viewpoint from the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument reveals how closely monuments from different periods coexist within the modern city. Renaissance and Baroque churches, historic palaces, crowded streets and later national monuments all appear within a relatively compact panorama. The combination of the Italian tricolour, pale marble of the Vittoriano and distant domes beneath the dark clouds creates a particularly atmospheric impression of Rome’s historic center.
