Stone fortification walls and ruined structures on the upper part of the archaeological site of Mycenae, viewed from the grassy slope below in Argolis, Greece.

This photograph shows the upper part of the archaeological site of Mycenae rising above a green hillside in Argolis, Greece. Ancient stone walls and ruined structural remains stand along the crest, while spring grass and scattered wildflowers soften the rugged outline of the Bronze Age citadel. Seen from below, the elevated ruins emphasize the commanding position of Mycenae over the surrounding landscape and reflect the defensive character of one of the most important centres of Mycenaean civilization.
