An evening view from Ċirkewwa at the northern tip of Malta, overlooking the Gozo Channel, the islands of Comino and Gozo, and part of the ferry harbour in warm sunset light.
This photograph captures a panoramic evening view from Ċirkewwa at the northwestern tip of Malta, looking across the Gozo Channel towards the neighbouring islands of Comino and Gozo. The deep-blue Mediterranean Sea dominates the foreground, while rugged limestone rocks along the lower edge of the image glow with warm orange and golden tones in the low evening sunlight. In the middle distance, the low-lying island of Comino stretches across the water, with the larger island of Gozo forming a broad, gently undulating landscape along the distant horizon. On the right, part of the Ċirkewwa ferry terminal is visible, including harbour structures and a vessel near the quay. Ċirkewwa is Malta’s principal ferry departure point for Gozo, with regular passenger and vehicle services connecting the main island to Mġarr Harbour. The surrounding channel separates Malta from Gozo, while Comino occupies a central position between the two larger islands. Comino is particularly well known for the Blue Lagoon, a sheltered area of exceptionally clear turquoise water between Comino and the smaller islet of Cominotto. This photograph highlights the natural geography of the northern Maltese archipelago, combining rugged coastal scenery, maritime activity and the soft colours of the Mediterranean landscape in the evening light.
