A lower-level view of the archaeological site of Mycenae, showing Cyclopean fortification walls, the rising access path, and the rugged landscape of Argolis, Greece.

This photograph shows the archaeological site of Mycenae from the lower part of the citadel approach in Argolis, Greece. Massive Cyclopean stone walls rise above the rocky slope, while the access path curves upward past an olive tree and open ground toward the fortified upper area. Seen from below, the view emphasizes the monumental scale of the Mycenaean fortifications and the commanding hilltop setting that made Mycenae one of the most important centres of Bronze Age Greece.
