Neuravensburg - Burg Neuravensburg - Path to the Last Standing Tower

A gravel path climbs toward the weathered keep of Burg Neuravensburg, the last major surviving structure of the historic castle above the village.

The ruins of Burg Neuravensburg rise above the village of Neuravensburg near Wangen im Allgäu, with the surviving stone keep standing as the most visible reminder of the former castle complex. In this photograph, a narrow gravel path curves uphill through the grassy slope toward the tall, weathered tower, emphasizing its solitary position against the sky. The castle was probably founded during the first half of the 12th century and is documented from the 13th century onward. It later became closely connected with the Abbey of St. Gall and served as the centre of the historic lordship of Neuravensburg. The medieval castle was destroyed during the German Peasants’ War in 1525 and rebuilt between 1613 and 1617 as a representative residence. After the property passed into Württemberg ownership, most of the palace buildings were sold for demolition from 1837 onward. Only the keep survived, later undergoing several stabilization campaigns and becoming the enduring landmark of Neuravensburg.
