Neuravensburg - Burg Neuravensburg - Village Framed by a Medieval Window

The village of Neuravensburg, its pond and the surrounding Allgäu countryside seen through a weathered stone opening high in the surviving castle keep.

From high inside the surviving keep of Burg Neuravensburg, a rough medieval window opening frames a remarkable view across the village, the Neuravensburger Weiher and the rolling landscape beyond. The dark stone edges of the opening create a natural frame around the scene, where houses and gardens fill the foreground, the pond stretches across the middle distance, and green fields, wooded ridges and distant mountains extend toward the horizon. Burg Neuravensburg was probably founded during the first half of the 12th century and later developed into the centre of the historic lordship of Neuravensburg. From 1613 to 1617 the medieval complex was extensively rebuilt as a representative palace, with the keep incorporated into the new residence. Most of the later buildings were dismantled during the 19th century, but the keep survived and was subsequently stabilized and adapted as a viewing platform. This photograph combines the medieval fabric of the tower with the landscape it has overlooked for centuries.
