A detailed view inside the Wieskirche, showing its gilded Rococo pulpit, frescoed ceiling and richly decorated altar area.
This photograph shows the richly decorated interior of the Pilgrimage Church of Wies, also known as the Wieskirche, near Steingaden in Bavaria, Germany. The view highlights the church’s famous Rococo design, including the ornate pulpit, marble-like columns, gilded stucco decoration, ceiling frescoes and the altar area dedicated to the Scourged Saviour. Built between 1745 and 1754, the Wieskirche is one of Bavaria’s great pilgrimage churches and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
