Oberschleissheim - Schleissheim Palace - From the park
The Schleissheim Palace comprises three individual palaces in a grand Baroque park. The palace was a summer residence of the Bavarian rulers of the House of Wittelsbach.
The new Schleissheim Palace was build between the old palace and Lustheim palace. Construction started in 1701. After Max Emanuel lost Bavaria for some years in the war of the Spanish Succession the works on the palace stopped in 1704. Joseph Effner enlarged the building to one of the most impressive Baroque palaces between 1719 and 1726. However, only the main wing was ever competed.
