Zugspitzplatt Ski Area - Zugspitze, Germany - Lifts beneath the Alpine Peaks

Zugspitze - Image

Ski lifts and groomed slopes stretch across the snowy Zugspitzplatt, framed by the rugged peaks of the Bavarian Alps beneath a clear blue sky.

The Zugspitzplatt forms the high-Alpine ski area beneath Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. In this photograph, broad snow-covered slopes extend across the plateau while ski lifts, pylons and prepared pistes cross the open terrain beneath a dramatic ring of rugged Alpine peaks. The Zugspitzplatt lies at around 2,600 metres and the ski area occupies the slopes between the Zugspitze at 2,962 metres, the Schneefernerkopf at 2,874 metres and the Wetterwandeck at 2,698 metres. Officially, the area offers around 20 kilometres of ski runs and benefits from its high elevation and reliable natural snow. The combination of open snowfields, lift infrastructure and surrounding limestone peaks gives this scene the unmistakable character of one of Germany’s highest winter sports areas.
