Neuravensburg - Burg Neuravensburg - A Path beneath the Ancient Keep

A narrow path climbs beneath the surviving keep of Burg Neuravensburg, framed by mature trees and the grassy slopes of the old castle hill.

The surviving keep of Burg Neuravensburg is the most prominent remnant of the historic castle complex above the village of Neuravensburg near Wangen im Allgäu. In this photograph, a narrow path curves uphill toward the massive stone tower, while mature trees rise on either side and partly frame the weathered medieval masonry. The original castle was probably founded during the first half of the 12th century and later developed into the centre of the lordship of Neuravensburg. From 1613 onward the medieval fortification was transformed into a more representative palace complex, with the keep incorporated into the new residence. After the estate passed into Württemberg ownership, most of the palace buildings were released for demolition from 1837 and had disappeared by the middle of the 19th century. The keep survived and became the defining landmark of the site. During the 20th century it underwent several stabilization campaigns and was adapted as a viewpoint, preserving the tower as both a historic monument and a visible reminder of Neuravensburg’s medieval past.
