Schloss Zeil near Leutkirch im Allgäu is a historic residence of the House of Waldburg-Zeil, set on an elevated site above the surrounding Allgäu countryside. This photograph focuses on one of the quieter landscape elements of the palace grounds: a long gravel avenue bordered on both sides by mature, carefully pollarded trees. Their sculptural trunks and interlocking branches create an almost tunnel-like corridor, drawing the eye toward the distant building at the end of the path. Schloss Zeil occupies a site with medieval roots and has been connected with the House of Waldburg for centuries, while the present palace complex developed from the end of the sixteenth century onward.
