Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century palace near Hohenschwangau and Schwangau in southern Bavaria, Germany. Commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, construction began in 1869, and the castle became one of the most famous examples of Romantic historicist architecture in Europe.
