The former hotel stands prominently above a rugged limestone hillside, its long, multi-storey façade displaying rows of empty windows, weathered walls and exposed balconies. A large open terrace supported by concrete columns dominates the right side of the building, while additional ruined structures extend along the rocky ridge towards the left. Beneath the hotel, the steep hillside is scattered with limestone rocks, fallen masonry and patches of Mediterranean vegetation. Low shrubs, wild grasses and small plants cover much of the slope, while a narrow path can be seen crossing the lower hillside. The clear blue sky provides a striking contrast to the pale stonework and earthy colours of the surrounding landscape. The Riviera Martinique Hotel once occupied an elevated coastal location near Għajn Tuffieħa and Golden Bay, an area renowned for its sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and scenic views across the Mediterranean Sea. Historical accounts associated with the property indicate that it was acquired by the Fenech family in 1978 and closed in 1988, although these dates and the hotel’s earlier history require further documentary verification. Following its closure, the building gradually deteriorated, leaving its once-functional rooms, balconies and terraces exposed to the elements. The surviving structure remains a distinctive example of abandoned coastal architecture in northern Malta.
