Purple dye murex - Bolinus brandaris
The most common murex, characterised by a very long siphon canal and long spines placed in a spiral pattern on the shell. Color is grayish or yellowish-grey. Once used for the extraction of purple dye. Found on sandy and detrital beds from 4 – 5 meters to over 70 meters deep. Maximum size 10 centimeters.
