License FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find answers to the most common questions regarding image downloads, purchased licenses, photographer credit, and permitted usage on Photo and Crochet.

1. Can I use free downloads for commercial work?
No. Free downloads are provided under Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 and are strictly for personal and non-commercial use only.

2. Do I always need to credit the photographer?
Not always. Free downloads and the Editorial License with Credit require proper attribution. The Editorial License without Credit does not require visible attribution. Commercial and No Profit licenses depend on the specific agreement and invoice details.

3. Can I remove the watermark from free downloads?
No. Free downloads are always watermarked. If you need the full-resolution original without watermark, you must purchase the appropriate license.

4. Can I print purchased images on mugs, shirts, bags, or posters?
Yes, but only under the correct license. Decorative use on products such as mugs, bags, and similar items is allowed under the Commercial License if the image is not the main product being sold. Posters or art prints where the image itself is the main sold item are not allowed.

5. Can I use an image for my business website?
Yes, if you purchase the Commercial License. Free downloads and editorial licenses are not suitable for business marketing purposes.

6. Can I use an image as a logo or trademark?
No. None of our licenses allow the use of Licensed Material as a logo, trademark, or service mark.

7. What happens if I use an image without the correct license?
Unauthorised use may constitute copyright infringement and may result in legal action, financial claims, and removal requests. Always ensure you have selected the correct license before use.

8. Do purchased licenses transfer copyright ownership?
No. Purchasing a license only grants usage rights. Copyright ownership always remains with the Licensor (the photographer or rights holder).

9. How do I know if a model release or property release exists?
Release information will be shown in the image description, invoice, or direct communication from the Licensor. If no release is stated, no release should be assumed.

10. Can I use the same purchased image in multiple projects?
Usually no. Most purchased licenses apply to one project only. If you want to use the same image again for another project, a new license may be required.

11. What happens if my download link expires?
Download links are valid for 3 days after payment. If your link expires or your download fails, please contact us with your order number and purchase details so we can assist you.

12. Which license should I choose?
Choose based on your intended use: Free Downloads for personal use, No Profit for non-commercial projects, Editorial Licenses for publishing and media, and Commercial License for business and marketing purposes.

This FAQ is a simplified guide only. The legally binding agreement is always the full license text accepted during purchase together with the invoice.
